The Western States Communication Association publishes two anonymously, peer-reviewed journals (Western Journal of Communication and Communication Reports), and one electronic newsletter (WSCA News). Additionally, the association has twitter and Facebook accounts. Explore this section of the website to learn more and join our community of scholars and teachers.

Accessing Publications

Online Access

As a member of Western States Communication Association, you are eligible to access Western Journal of Communication and Communication Reports online. Upon joining or renewing your membership, you should receive an email from the publisher of the journal, Taylor & Francis, with instructions for journal access and with your subscription activation code. The email will come from onlineaccesshelp@taylorandfrancis.com.

Once you receive the email from Taylor & Francis:

  • If you ALREADY HAVE a tandfonline.com account, please click the activation code link from the email and sign in to claim your access. That link contains a one-time activation code which will add access to the journals to your account.
  • If you DO NOT ALREADY HAVE a tandfonline.com account, then:
  1. Please go to http://www.tandfonline.com and click "Register" in the upper right hand corner. Enter your name, country, and a valid email address, and choose a password to access your account.
    When finished entering your account information click Register. Then, check your email. A message from support@tandfonline.com should appear within 30 minutes. Please check your Spam folder if you do not see it in your Inbox.
    Click the link in the message to activate your account.
  2. Return to the email from onlineaccesshelp@taylorandfrancis.com that contains your subscription activation code link, and click that link.
    That link contains a one-time activation code which will add access to the journals to your account.

Once you have claimed access, you will be able to access journal content from any computer by clicking on the following links and entering your email address and password.

Please note this online subscription is valid for 12 months. Renewing members will receive reactivation codes.

Library and Agency Subscriptions

The Western Journal of Communication (Volume 70 in 2006 - ISSN 1057-0314) and Communication Reports (Volume 19 in 2006 - ISSN 0893-4215) are published by Routledge Journals in partnership with the Western States Communication Association.
Western Journal of Communication publishes five issues in the annual volume, and is available online. Communication Reports is published as two issues online, followed by an archive print volume at the end of the year.
One institutional subscription includes print and online versions of both Western Journal of Communication and Communication Reports.

Copyright Permission

The Western States Communication Association (WSCA) is the sole copyright holder of all articles published in the Western Journal of Communication and Communication Reports.
WSCA requires permission and a fee for reprinting all or part of any article in its journals in both print and electronic publications. Full acknowledgment must be given to the author, title, and publisher. Reprint permission is granted for the current edition of a work only, not for revision, future editions, and ancillaries. When both print and electronic outlets are used, a separate fee for each applies. Reprint permission does not restrict republication of material by WSCA or by others granted reprint permission by WSCA. The Executive Director of the Association has the sole right to grant reprint permission.

Photocopies of all material published by WSCA may be made for classroom use free of charge if the following criteria are fulfilled: (1) no fees above the actual duplicating costs are charged, (2) the materials are photocopies and not reprints or republications, and (3) the material includes a full bibliographic citation and the following statement: "Copyrighted by the Western States Communication Association. Photocopied by permission of the publisher." A photocopy of this statement serves as WSCA's official permission for using materials in this way. This free permission is not applicable when an additional fee is charged for the material or when the material is reprinted in a commercial publication; WSCA charges a fee when its publications are included in a commercial publication or when an additional fee is charged.

Digital/electronic reserve use of all material published by WSCA may be made for classroom use free of charge if the following criteria are fulfilled: (1) no fees above the actual costs are charged, and (2) the material includes a full bibliographic citation and the following statement: "Copyrighted by the Western States Communication Association.
