I am pleased to announce that Communication, Identities & Difference is the newest interest group of WSCA! It was proposed to and approved by the WSCA Executive Council on November 15, 2017.

The goals of Communication, Identities & Difference interest group are as follows:

(1) To centralize the study of intersectional and historically marginalized identities (i.e., race, sexuality, class, nation, disability, the body, and/or gender among other identity categories) in the examination of communication regardless of theoretical or methodological approach;

(2) To offer an outlet for presenting scholarship and/or hosting panel sessions dedicated to scholarship that is committed to examining and unveiling the role of intersectional and marginalized identities in discursive and non-discursive realms;

(3) To create and maintain a space in which members and/or allies of marginalized positionalities may affirm, support, and network with each other; and

(4) To serve as advocacy platform from which concerns may be voiced to the Association.

Members interested in supporting the interest group are invited to attend its inaugural business meeting at the 2018 convention in Santa Clara, CA. Time and place of the business meeting to be announced in the convention program. Looking ahead, CID will begin sponsoring panels at the 2019 conference in Seattle!

The approval status of Communication, Identities & Difference interest group is for a two-year probationary period. The interest group will be presented as an informational item at Legislative Assembly on February 18, 2018.
