February is right around the corner.  It’s a warm and sunny 78 today in San Diego – hopefully that will help entice you to register now for the WSCA conference February 27-March 1, 2016.  While we cannot guarantee the weather (although it’s a good bet), we can guarantee a good time in “America’s Finest City.”

In addition to the great panels, your local arrangements crew has organized a number of activities to help break the winter blues!  On Saturday, consider one or more of these activities:

  • Rise early for the WSCA Golf Outing.  Join Perry Pauley and Bill Snavely for a morning on the links! We will meet at a local (Executive) course at 8am to play 18 holes of golf.  Bring your clubs or rent them here. Advance fee covers your greens fees and cart. Prizes for long drive, closest to the pin, longest putt, etc. on select holes.  We expect to be back at the Bahia around noon.  Details for registration can be found at the WSCA Store.  Advance registration is required.

  • Not into golf?  How about a Guided Bike Tour around Mission Bay?  Local biking enthusiast and colleague Wayne Beach will lead you on a flat and scenic bike tour starting at 9am.  The bike paths are flat and available to anyone who can ride a bike.  Prices vary for rental bikes and equipment.  You will be back at the Bahia no later than noon.  Pre-registration recommended.

  • So what about your afternoon?  Sign up for the San Diego Brewery Tour!  Hosted by Patricia Geist-Martin, this is a guided tour of several of San Diego’s world famous micro breweries.  We will have a limo that leaves Bahia at 1pm and you will be back by 6 pm.  Guaranteed to be a good time – sign up in advance!

  • We will provide you a Restaurant Guide, compliments of Brian Spitzberg, at registration and there are plenty of free-time activities within walking distance – a walk or run on the Bay or along the Pacific Ocean are always available to you.  We also hope you will purchase the conference commemorative T-Shirt to show some WSCA pride, remember your good experience, and support our hard working graduate students.

So when the clouds and cold roll in this winter, keep your focus on your San Diego getaway at the end of February.  Your SDSU colleagues look forward to sharing our city with you!
