We deeply thank all of our Association members who took our recent survey on the WSCA 2021 convention. The clear response is that virus risks, travel funding, and uncertainty make most members unlikely to attend the 2021 convention. This response mirrors the concerns discussed among the elected officers and the Executive Council.  As difficult as it is to cancel our convention, we value your health as well as the health of the local hosts and hotel staff, and will not hold our annual physical gathering in 2021.

We have chosen to postpone our convention until 2022, when we will meet from February 18-21 in Portland, Oregon.  When we announced the 2021 theme of “Cultivate,” we recognized it as a powerful verb focused both on intentional examination of the current conditions and measured work to support growth and flourishing into the future.  Cultivation is a process that can take time, and we believe that we can continue cultivating together in many ways over the next year and reconnect under this theme in Portland in 2022.

We wanted to let our members know of this decision as soon as it was made, so that you know you have time to work on submissions from now through September 1 of 2021.  We will welcome then any submissions or ideas you have been working on for this year, as well as any innovations or new projects you can now create with a longer timeline in mind.  We are still working out some of the logistics regarding this postponement and what it means for our usual practices and procedures throughout the year, as well as any virtual options for 2021.  We will be back in touch with these specifics as soon as possible.

For now, we want to reaffirm our commitment to our members, and to providing them with a safe and responsive organization.  We want you to know that we are listening to your input, and doing our best to continue shaping an organization that meets your needs.  We are a strong association, with resources to carry us through this difficult time.  Despite the adversity, we are grateful to be moving through this time in history together.
