The Model Communication Award Committee is pleased to announce El Camino College in Torrance, California, as this year's award recipient. El Camino College's Communication Studies Program not only offers a broad range of Comm. Studies courses, they also offer an AA degree and a Certificate of Achievement in Communication. Courses from El Camino's program build skills in research, organization, critical thinking, argumentation and forensics, and their core classes satisfy six California State University General Education transfer requirements for any major. They also have a diverse, well-published faculty, many of whom are regular presenters at WSCA. Most noteworthy of El Camino's program is the ongoing excellence of their Forensics Team.  They have consistently earned top rankings from the National Parliamentary Debate Association and have won national awards at every level of competition, and the team has won the national community college sweepstakes award for the past 11 years. Their Forensics students are heavily recruited to four year institutions, many with scholarships, and 95% of graduating Forensics students have transferred to four-year universities, most to highly competitive UCLA and UC Berkeley. Congratulations to all who helped make El Camino College the 2019 Model Communication Program Award winner. My thanks to fellow committee members, Linda Carvalho Cooley (Chair, Community College Interest Group) and Hailey Gillen Hoke (Chair, Communication & Instruction Interest Group).

[Receiving the award is faculty member, R. Chris Wells]
