ORWAC Awards from WSCA 2018

The Organization for Research on Women and Communication (ORWAC) is pleased to announce their award winners for 2018.


Danielle C. Biss has received our Top Undergraduate Student Paper award for her paper entitled, “(En)Gendering Hegemonic Representations of Disability in The Bridge.”


Marguerite Nguyen Lehman has received the Top Debut Paper award for her paper entitled, 

“Gender N/A: Identity Disclosure in Activist Discourse and the ? Persona.”


Jed Chalupa has received the Top Student Paper award for his paper, 

“Scapegoating to Preserve Hegemonic Ideology: An Examination of Criminal Minds' Representation of Sex Work as a Means of Hegemonic Maintenance.”


Whitney Neukam has received the Top Paper award for her paper, “Transphobic, Racist, and Classist Ideologies of the Women's March on Washington: A Critique of White Feminism.”


Finally, our 2018 Feminist Scholar of the Year is Raquel Moreira for her article published in Women’s
Studies in Communication 
(Volume 40, Issue 2), “‘Now That I’m a Whore, Nobody Is Holding Me Back!’: Women in Favela Funk and Embodied Politics.
