Position Announcement: Four Positions at Florida International University

Florida International University’s Department of Communication Arts invites applications for four full-time, 9-month, permanent faculty members:  two tenure track positions and two instructor positions. Begun in the August 2012, our young, growing Department invites new colleagues to join our scholarly community in an exciting college, dynamic university, and vibrant city. Our faculty members share common interests in conflict resolution and intercultural communication. We welcome opportunities for collaborative work.


Tenure-Track Positions:

Assignments include teaching, research and publication consistent with FIU’s High Research status. Grant-writing and community engaged scholarship are strongly encouraged. Preference will be given to candidates with primary areas of specialization in Organizational Communication, Intercultural Communication, and/or Conflict Management. Candidates are expected to teach in primary and secondary areas of specialization. They should also be prepared to teach in a third area, ideally in one or more of the following: Communication Theory, Interpersonal Communication, Interviewing, Leadership, Persuasion, and/or Rhetoric. Course assignments depend on the scholar’s qualifications and departmental needs. Minimum qualifications include an earned PhD in Communication (formerly known as speech communication) or a closely related discipline from an accredited university and at least two years’ experience teaching undergraduate students. Instructor Positions:

Candidates should be prepared to teach in a number of courses including Business and Professional Communication, Advanced Communication for Business, Intercultural Communication, Nonverbal Communication, Public Speaking, Advanced Public Speaking, and Rhetorical Communication. Course assignments depend on the instructor’s qualifications and departmental need.
