We gratefully acknowledge Vincent F. Follert, Jr. as the founder of Communication Reports. Initial publication of Communication Reports was supported, in part, by funds endowed by the late Dr. Follert.

Please note that Communication Reports uses CrossCheck™  software to screen papers for unoriginal material. By submitting your paper to Communication Reports you are agreeing to any necessary originality checks your paper may have to undergo during the peer review and production processes

Editorial Policy

Communication Reports (CR), published since 1988, is one of two scholarly journals of the Western States Communication Association (WSCA). The journal publishes original manuscripts that are short, data/text-based, and related to the broadly defined field of human communication. The mission of the journal is to showcase exemplary scholarship. Articles that are only speculative, theoretical, and not data analytic, are not appropriate for this journal. Authors are expected to devote a substantial portion of the manuscript to analyzing and reporting research data.

Manuscript Submission

Communication Reports
employs an electronic manuscript submission process via Manuscript Central.  All submissions should be uploaded to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/rcrs. Manuscript Central allows for rapid and easy submission of original and revised manuscripts, as well as reviewing and internal communication between authors, editors, and reviewers via a web-based platform. Authors may log on or create an account by providing the corresponding authorís complete address, telephone number, fax number, and email address.

Manuscripts must conform to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th Edition (2010). Manuscripts also must conform to the guidelines for avoiding ethnic biases and sexist language. Research involving human subjects must be approved by an institutional review board to be published in Communication Reports.  Authors are urged to submit manuscripts as MS Word files (.doc format).  If manuscripts cannot be sent in .doc format, then they should be sent in ‘‘pdf’’ or ‘‘rtf” format.  Research articles should be 5,000 words or less.  This restriction is inclusive of the abstract, text of the document, references, footnotes, appendices, and the captions for tables and figures, but slightly longer manuscripts may be considered.  Authors are responsible for verifying that all files have uploaded correctly. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and must sign an agreement for transfer of copyright to the publisher upon acceptance.  All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become property of the publisher.  When submitting a manuscript for review, be sure to provide (a) a separate abstract not exceeding 120 words, and four separate files (when appropriate): (b) a separate title page file with complete contact information for each author, (c) the main manuscript file stripped of all identifying information, figures, and tables, (d) a separate file with all figures (if included), (e) a separate file with all tables (if included).  Manuscript Central will prompt you to upload each of these files.

Manuscripts must not be under consideration by another publication. Communication Reports follows a policy of blind, peer review, and each manuscript typically is read by two or three reviewers with expertise in the study’s subject matter and methodology.  All comments by reviewers are confidential and shall not be published.  Based on the recommendations of the reviewers, the editor will make the final judgment with regard to publication.  The editor will make every effort to insure that authors are informed as to the disposition of their manuscript within three months of receipt of the submission.
