We gratefully acknowledge Vincent F. Follert, Jr. as the founder of Communication Reports. Initial publication of Communication Reports was supported, in part, by funds endowed by the late Dr. Follert.
Communication Reports (CR), published since 1988, is one of two scholarly journals of the Western States Communication Association (WSCA). The journal publishes original manuscripts that are short, data/text-based, and related to the broadly defined field of human communication. The mission of the journal is to showcase exemplary scholarship. Articles that are only speculative, theoretical, or with only raw counts and proportions (without analysis) are not appropriate for this journal. Authors are expected to devote a substantial portion of the manuscript to analyzing and reporting research data.
Communication Reports employs an electronic manuscript submission process via Manuscript Central. All submissions should be uploaded to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/rcrs. Manuscript Central allows for rapid and easy submission of original and revised manuscripts, as well as reviewing and internal communication between authors, editors, and reviewers via a web-based platform. Manuscripts must conform to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th Edition (2009). Please note the corrections listed at http://supp.apa.org/style/pubman-reprint-corrections-for-2e.pdf. Manuscripts also must conform to the guidelines for avoiding ethnic biases and sexist language. For research involving human subjects, authors should submit evidence of approval by an institutional review board at the time of submission to Communication Reports.
Research articles should be 5000 words or fewer. This restriction includes the abstract, text of the document, references, footnotes, appendices, and the captions for tables and figures. In unusual circumstances, authors may appeal to the editor for an exception to the word count restriction. Blind reviewers must give assent to the appeal to the word count exception.
Authors are responsible for verifying that all files have uploaded correctly. Authors are urged to submit manuscripts as MS Word files (.docx or .doc format). Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and must sign an agreement for transfer of copyright to the publisher upon acceptance. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become property of the publisher. Authors may log on or create an account by providing the corresponding author’s complete address, telephone number, fax number, and email address.
When submitting a manuscript for review be sure to provide four separate files (when appropriate): (a) the main manuscript file stripped of all identifying information and tables, (b) a separate title page file with complete contact information for each author, (c) a separate file with all tables. (d) a separate abstract not exceeding 100 words. Manuscript Central will prompt you to upload each of these files.

Manuscripts must not be under consideration by another publication. Communication Reports follows a policy of blind, peer review, and each manuscript typically is read by two or three reviewers with expertise in the study's subject matter and methodology. All comments by reviewers are confidential and shall not be published. Based on the recommendations of the reviewers, the editor will make the final judgment with regard to publication. The editor has the goal to insure that authors are informed about the disposition of their manuscript within three months of receipt of the submission.
