As president of the Executives Club I am pleased to present the Debut
Paper Award. For those of you not familiar with the Executives Club, its
purpose is to provide support for new scholars and membership is open to
any member of good standing in WSCA who has served on the Executive
So let me share with you some of the reviewers’ comments about this
year¹s debut paper award winner. One reviewer wrote, "This paper set a
high water mark for submissions this year," and that, "The theoretical
grounding is well selected, and the writing is excellent." Another
reviewer wrote that, "Given the quality and relevance of the submitted
papers, it was a challenge to evaluate these papers and I would have to
say that the paper on coping with cancer is superb."
This year’s recipient of the Debut paper award is Patrick E.
McElearney, Department of Communication Studies, Louisiana State
University, Baton Rouge. (Submitted by Performance Studies) and the title
of his paper is “Coping with Cancer's Uncertainty: For a Narrative and
Performative Model of Coping with Cancer.”
