I have the privilege of recognizing the contributions of our Association’s Immediate Past President Paul Mongeau. Recalling Paul’s convention theme – “Accentuate the Positive” – I want to take a moment to accentuate the positive contributions Paul has made to our Association.
Paul has been on the Executive Council in many different roles over several years. He served as editor of Western Journal of Communication, chair of the Publications Committee, and the four years involved with the Presidential roles.
Executive Director Heather Hundley recalled that “The combination of his wit, intelligence, and humanity made it a pleasure for me to work with him. He took his presidential responsibilities seriously, yet always had fun. He is thoughtful and caring, and it was a privilege working with him. “
Past President Patty O’Keefe recollected: “I admire his ability to be gracious. He’s never one to leave anything or anybody behind.”
Patty O’Keefe – and many others - enjoyed Paul’s wit and humor, which is frequently self-deprecating in nature: Patty remembered when she asked Paul to provide a photo for the convention program - Paul sent a picture of “Dopey” from Snow White. That picture did not make it into the program – but, it is a perfect example of his sense of humor.
Paul and I are fellow Sun Devil’s from Arizona State. I too have had the opportunity to work with him on the Executive Council. As others have observed, Paul is not afraid to ask the refreshing and needed questions about why the Association does something in a certain way. And, he’s willing to do the work to find answers.
Paul – on behalf of WSCA – thank you for your service and dedication to our members.
