In accordance with IG and WSCA bylaws, I would like to propose the following change to the WSCA Freedom of Expression and Legal Communication interest group:
A change of name from “Freedom of Expression and Legal Communication” to “Political Communication and Freedom of Expression.” (or “Freedom of Expression and Political Communication”.)
I believe such a change better reflects the type of research we receive. Further, such a change will benefit our interest group by encouraging additional participation by those scholars whose research may not fully fit in the milieu of legal communication but does address important issues that affect freedom of expression and legal communication. In addition, WSCA does not have a traditional political communication interest group, by opening our interest group to such relevant research we can provide a home to a wider scope of scholarship.
There is an open forum on this topic available to all members of the Freedom of Expression and Legal Communication interest group available on the WSCA website. WSCA members who are not part of the Freedom of expression and may share their thoughts by emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org. In addition I have created a public facebook group “WSCA Freedom of Expression” to provide an additional forum for discussion.
Please attend our business meeting at 7:30 am on Sunday February 28 in the Pacific Room to vote on this proposal.
