New WSCA Database - Departmental Members

If you are a member of WSCA, you may have seen the email and WSCA News article regarding the improvements to the database system. However, in some instances the Department Administrative Assistant has access to the WSCA Department membership; therefore, I want to update you regarding the changes in the new system.
In the past few months, WSCA has abandoned its old database system and upgraded to a new company, YourMembership (aka YM). Details of this move can be found in my prior newsletter articles you can review in WSCA News. Among many improvements, YM is much faster and user friendly. This message is specifically related to of how it effects Department Members.
Like other member types, Department Members must log on to the system to get Department Member rates when purchasing Graduate Program Open House tables, convention program announcements, and to get free job postings. Whoever is responsible for your department’s membership is the contact person. Thus, to sign in/log on, you must use the contact person’s email address as the username. If no email was provided, then it is the contact person’s firstname.lastname as the username. Currently all members have an unknown password; therefore, you must click on “forgot my password” to create a new one. Passwords are never known to anyone (including myself) so I am never able to retrieve your password for you. Instead, use the “forgot my password” function if you forget it.
Once you sign in through the WSCA website you may update your profile, sign up in groups (interest groups), etc. You may want to opt in/out of various emails, blogs, and other communication. Please note that there are many different email lists and some you cannot opt out of. For instance, you cannot opt out of receiving a reminder that your membership dues are expiring. However, if you do not want to receive newsletter emails, you may opt out of that. As time passes and you continue to renew your membership and make purchases, all your invoices, payments and history can be found in the “manage profile” section.
Another benefit of the YM system is that ALL your purchases can be made online. We no longer need to print out forms from the website and snail mail them in to me. Instead, you can go to the “online store” available from the “About WSCA” dropdown bar on the website. Here you can purchase a table for the Graduate Program Open House and a program announcement. However, you will still need to email your PDF program announcement, as specified, to me by the deadline.
Finally, this system also allows Department Members to post your own job announcements. This can be done through the homepage, bottom left “Career Center.” Even though it is seen on the online store that is only for non-department members since they have to pay for the job posting. Once you click on the career center from the home page, you may submit an opening, update it, delete it, etc.
Again, please note, you will only have access to these benefits if you sign in to the system from the WSCA website. Let me know if you have questions or problems. Even though I have familiarized myself with it and have attended a two-day training session, I am also new to the program. Be patient and we will have success.
